Child Health Nursing Lab

The pediatric Nursing skill lab provides students with an additional learning resource to meet their educational goals. The lab is equipped with manikins including CPR manikins, preterm baby with all orifices & invasive procedure access, intubation head. 7 years old child manikin has provision for comprehensive nursing procedures. Lab has instructional charts, posters, supplies, equipments and model of ideal setup of an NICU. The lab provides the students with a medium fidelity clinical environment to practice nursing procedures.

Community Health Nursing Lab

Community Health Nursing (CHN) is the specialty preparing the students to meet the ever changing challenges of the health of the communities. This lab is well equipped set up with articles for preparing nursing students to deliver health care to people in urban and rural communities. Our CHN Lab offers a view of spectrum of community (Models, charts) which help the students to identify and solve health problems in the community through innovative and effective strategies of primary health care. Highlights of the lab are:
1. Community health care bags with instruments and other articles.
2. Models such as PHC, CHC & water sanitation etc.
3. A. V. Aids (Charts and posters) for health talk, health exhibitions and other awareness programs on different topics like MCH, Communicable and non communicable diseases etc.

Advance Clinical Lab

Medical Surgical Nursing lab is the virtual practical area of the students, where they perform all nursing procedures prior to the exposure to the actual clinical field. The lab is equipped with all simple as well as sophisticated equipment and manikins to facilitate transition to actual clinical settings. A large collection of nursing models, manikins, instruments, comfort devices are available for full practical simulation of patient care. Medical surgical lab provides safe training environment for all nursing students in practical courses. The lab has advanced CPR dummy, procedure dummies and infusion arms for teaching the student required skills. Whole range of surgical instruments such as hemostats, forceps, retractors etc are there to teach general trolley set up in O.T and for trolley setting for specific procedures.

Pre Clinical Lab

The lab is prepared to reinforce the theory knowledge about Human Anatomy & Physiology with the help of articulated skeletons, various bones, models & charts. The models and specimens in the lab help students to gain knowledge and the “hand touch feel” of the structure and function of the human body. The lab has excellent infrastructure forming the basis of deeper understanding of body functions.

CHOITHRAM COLLEGE OF NURSING
NURSING FOUNDATION LAB

Nursing is an art and science that needs a lot of practice. The Nursing Foundation Lab is the practical area of the students, where they perform all nursing procedures on manikins prior to the exposure to the clinical field. The lab is designed to help the students to develop an understanding of the philosophy, objective, theories and process of nursing in clinical setting. The set up aims at helping the students to acquire knowledge, understanding and develop skill in techniques of nursing procedures and prepares them to practice them in clinical setting. For all this we have well equipped lab with 8 beds, manikins for performing and practice of various invasive procedures including IV Cannulisation and Infusion. Nursing foundation lab offers the opportunity to provide simulation based education to challenge and test students clinical and decision making skills during realistic patient care and scenarios.

 Obstetric & Gynecological Nursing (Midwifery) Skill Lab

 The maternal health nursing (midwifery) skill lab has all the equipment, manikins, articles and reading material in the form of charts and posters which provide nursing/midwifery students with an additional learning resource to meet their clinical practice goals. The lab also has various models, simulators (medium fidelity), instruments, drugs, mother craft kit and equipment for antenatal & postnatal examination.  There are charts, posters & flow charts for guiding the students in carrying out procedures in systematic order.

DEPARTMENT OF MENTAL HEALTH NURSING
MENTAL HEALTH LAB (COUNSELING ROOM)

The core idea of starting mental health lab is to provide exposure and orient the nursing students about mental health assessment; theories related to personality development and acquaint them with concept of mental health & illness. The lab is equipped with various models including ‘eight parts brain model’, charts and psychometric assessment tools viz. Rorschach test, Bhatia Battery, TAT etc. The lab is also used for psychosocial counseling of the students who are in need.

Library is the heart of an educational institute. It is where the students and faculty find answers to their questions. It is the place where the academicians quench their thirst for information and knowledge. The library is the place where a research scholar spends hours to find relevant literature to form basis for his/her enquiry and a young student finds interesting stories to divert from the monotony of text book mugging.

The library is centrally computerized and has internet and photocopying facilities. The students can also use the facilities of main hospital library as well as the university library with special permission from the principal.

The library of Choithram College of Nursing provides its readers all of the above. There are about three thousand books. Around twenty Indian and ten foreign journals are subscribed for the library. The books and journals and periodicals are not only related to nursing but to myriad of subjects that the students and faculty need to prepare their assignments and projects.

The reading rooms are properly lighted and well ventilated with comfortable seating arrangements.There is a full time qualified librarian and her assistants to facilitate the students in using the library facilities. The library remains open from 9 a. m. to 9 p. m.

The primary goal of the computer labs and classrooms is to provide assistance to students that will enhance their chances of succeeding in technology-based classroom assignments and to provide access to equipment that will support the needs of instruction where we celebrate life-long learning.

Keeping pace with the latest technology, we at Choithram have a fully equipped computer lab with multimedia & full time internet facility.

Our college campus is also Wi-Fi zone (used 24 hrs internet). Students are encouraged to utilize it to the maximum available to students without any extra charges. Net connectivity is also available to students without any extra charges. It is having audio-visual facilities with L C D projector to transform education with latest technology.

The computer labs support the curriculum of the college and the assignments of the instructors.

Whenever any error occurs the concerned faculty / expert should be consulted. Students must save their work in the directory, separate for each student, to avoid problems such as deletion, unauthorized changes etc

COMMENCEMENT OF YOGA IN CHOITHRAM COLLEGE OF NURSING

‘Yoga’ the word radiates peace and tranquility. This feeling probably stems from the etymology of the word. The word yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’ which essentially means to join or to unite. The union referred to is that of the individual self-uniting with Cosmic Consciousness or the Universal spirit.

To keep in mind the Holistic development of students, Choithram college of Nursing has taken initiative and started a 3-month yoga classes for B.Sc. Nursing students since 1996. The importance of this initiative is:

  • Attainment of perfect equilibrium and harmony
  • To promote self-healing
  • To remove negative blocks from the mind and toxins from the body
  • To enhance personal power
  • To increases self- awareness
  • To help in attention, focus and concentration
  • To reduces stress and tension in the physical body by activating the parasympathetic nervous system

Yoga was introduced in Choithram College of Nursing by Shri U.S.Prasad and was continued by Dr. Hemant Sharma from the year 2004 till 2008 and  Mrs. Sandhya Srivastava has been conducting the yoga sessions since 2009 (5.30pm to 6.30pm) and Mr. D.P Srivastava has taken the charge of morning yoga sessions since 2013 (6am to 7am) to till date . Teachers are assigned to assure the attendance of the students for these yoga sessions.

Various events were organized to make students, faculty and people at community level aware about importance and usefulness of Yoga. National Yoga Day is observed on 21st June by our students every year with great zeal and enthusiasm.

 

 

Choithram College of Nursing is having Two College buses. Choithram School looks after all the transportation of all its branches. They have appointed two drivers and two cleaners for buses.

All the two buses are provided to college for outreach programs. Daily schedules are made by college Faculty Incharge.

Choithram College of Nursing has been organizing different type of Curricular and Extra-curricular activities in the college and outside also like clinical posting at different hospitals, Rural and Urban Posting of M.Sc & B.Sc Nursing students, Camps at different places, National Health Programs, National Service Scheme camp (NSS), Visits – NGOs, Old age homes, Orphanage, Mentally retarded Children’s home.

We are using bus for Different Programs arranged by University like Youth Festival, Examination work, sending off students to their examination center, programs collaborated with other institutions, etc.

Our college provides hostel and mess facilities for students with comfortable and secure accommodation . The hostel complex houses a mess where hygienic and nutritious food is served to the students in a homely atmosphere. Students have to abide by the rules and regulations prescribed by the authorities and are expected to help in creating a home like atmosphere. We have provided a T.V. for students entertainment.
